In an industry traditionally dominated by men, women in parking are steadily making their mark—and mentorship is playing a pivotal role in that progress. As someone who has built a career in the parking industry, I’ve come to deeply appreciate the power of having strong mentors and a supportive network of women to walk beside me. This journey hasn’t always been easy, but the presence of trusted colleagues—especially those willing to lend an ear or share their own stories—has been a guiding light through the challenges.
The Value of Having Someone to Talk To
Navigating the complexities of leadership, managing operations, enforcing policy, and solving problems in real time can feel isolating. There have been moments in my career when the weight of responsibility seemed overwhelming. But having someone I could talk to—whether to vent frustrations or talk through difficult decisions—made all the difference. These weren’t just casual conversations; they were powerful moments of validation and clarity. When someone truly listens and understands the unique pressures you face, it gives you the strength to keep moving forward.
In my experience, it’s not always about finding someone who has the answers, but someone who understands the questions. Mentorship in this sense has been transformational—offering both emotional support and practical insights that have shaped how I lead today.
Representation Matters
There’s an unmatched feeling that comes from seeing another woman confidently lead in a space where women have historically been underrepresented. Watching women take up space in boardrooms, on planning committees, or in operational leadership roles has been a source of inspiration for me. These role models prove that leadership doesn’t have to look one way. It can be assertive and compassionate, strategic and empathetic, visionary and grounded. Their success gives me the confidence to continue carving out my own path, and to help others do the same.
Representation goes beyond visibility—it builds belief. Seeing other women lead made me believe that I could, too.
The Road Ahead
The parking industry is evolving, and with it comes a growing recognition of the value that diverse leadership brings. Women have a vital role to play in this future, and mentorship is one of the most powerful tools we have to ensure we rise together.
Whether you’re just starting out or already in a leadership role, find your people—those who will listen, challenge, support, and inspire you. And when you can, be that person for someone else.
Because when women support women, incredible things happen.
